Spicy Mexican Hot Chocolate Mix – extra chocolate

Standard

ImageFrom the kitchen last minute gifts!!  You probably already have these ingredients in your kitchen.  This gift is great for neighbors, office mates, in laws or stocking stuffer.  I got this recipe from Martha Stewart and I accidentally switched the sugar and cocoa measurements, which ultimately worked out because I love chocolate more then sugar.  So feel free to switch them again if you feel the need.  The mix ended up being very chocolatey and the cayenne pepper helps clear up any congestion from a winter cold.

Ingredients – Makes 4 half pint Kerr jars

  • 3 1/2 cups cocoa
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon table salt
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper ( more or less depending on your spice tolerance)
  • old jelly jars or Kerr jars (“De-solv-it” gets sticky labels off fairly well, then I always use rubbing alcohol for any extra glue)
  • ribbon or stickers for decoration

Directions

Measure and sift all ingredients in a large mixing bowl.  Scope mix into jars, decorate and you’re done!!  If you do not have a sifter then I would use a whisk, however sifting makes for the perfect blend of ingredients.  Enjoy!
